Jesus Christ has always been Counter Cultural. He said, “I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Talk about Counter Cultural! It was then and it still is.
On October 31, 1517 Martin Luther began the Reformation by nailing 95 theses to the door of the Church to call the Church back to their foundation in Christ. The Reformation was built on Five Solas: Faith Alone, Grace Alone, Christ Alone, Scripture Alone and Glory of God Alone.
During this five week series, we will explore how the Five Solas are still Counter Cultural and how these truths equip us to be witnesses for Christ.

October 1: Faith Alone
Old Testament Reading: Psalm 32:1-11
New Testament Reading: Romans 3:21-26
What is faith? The definition can be confusing. God’s Word speaks of faith in words like, weak, little, great, much, etc. What does this mean? How does a proper understanding of faith strengthen and equip people in their life as a disciple of Christ?
October 8: Grace Alone
Old Testament Reading: Deuteronomy 7:6-8
New Testament Reading: Ephesians 2:1-10
Grace is a difficult subject. While we like to speak of grace, it makes us uncomfortable. The essence of grace says that you had nothing to do with it. Grace is the favor of God which is undeserved and unearned. Our human nature and culture wars against this saying, “There is no free lunch!” Yet every person is hungry for unconditional grace. It is in the Gospel of Jesus Christ where we find what our soul longs for…Grace Alone.
October 15: Christ Alone
Old Testament Reading: Isaiah 53:1-12
New Testament Reading: Philippians 2:5-11
As we look at our world, our country, our homes and our lives, we know that things are not as they should be. We look for solutions in almost any place we can find them only to be disappointed at the results. What if the answer to our broken world, country, homes, relationships and lives is found in Christ Alone?
October 22: Scripture Alone
Old Testament Reading: Deuteronomy 31-32
New Testament Reading: John 5:30-47
The Bible is the undisputed all-time best seller! There is no close second. But what is the Bible? Is it about me and how I should live? Is the Bible about people whose writings are irrelevant today? Or is all life and truth seen through Scripture Alone which reveals Christ Alone?
October 29: Glory of God Alone
Old Testament Reading: Psalm 19:1-2, 24:1-2
New Testament Reading: Hebrews 1:1-10
We conclude this series by meditating on the truth that all of creation and life has but one purpose, to declare the Glory of God Alone.
