Abrakadoodle Art Camps 

                                                                                                         

Anime Art Camp - Cancelled - Join Abrakadoodle Anime and learn the Japanese art of animation. Learn about the basics of head and facial features plus body shapes, hands and feet, animal anime and more. Use the Abrakadoodle Anime Guide Book to take you through the steps of creating your own anime characters. You will learn Japanese games and listen to Japanese folktales. At the end of the session, take home your Abrakadoodle Anime Guide Book and your kit materials to further explore this unusual art form. So get ready for super fun at Abrakadoodle Anime!

Once Upon a Time Art Camp - Calling all princes and princesses!  Enter the enchanted kingdom of Abrakadoodle Land filled with castles, dragons, fairies, and stories of magic and surprise!  We’ll create our own royalty gear, design our own castles and sprinkle fairy dust to create colorful and whimsical art. We’ll learn about medieval life through the Book of Hours by the Limbourg Brothers and create fairies, like the designs of Patience Brewster.  We’ll even make a royal Faberge Egg!   You’ll get the regal treatment in a camp filled with music, games, wonder and enchantment!

Daydreaming Art Camp - If you’ve ever dreamed of being a super sleuth, a super hero or heroine, race car driver, architect or space explorer - this is the Abrakadoodle camp for you!  Follow the clues to create an artist’s sketch of the perpetrator. Learn about fingerprinting and make your own special fingerprint art.  Show your super might in a photo illustration. There’s a little competition – and fun, as you create and race your own race car. Put your imagination into overdrive as you design a city for the future. Explore outer space while learning about the Hubble Telescope. Build and name your own star! There will be future- focused games, music and a new adventure every day!

Drawsters Art Camp - Abrakadoodle makes drawing easy!  Come join the fun and learn to draw figures, animals and more in Abrakadoodle’s Drawsters Camp. We will learn to use our pencils to sketch familiar objects and figures with step by step instructions and challenges in our own Abrakadoodle Drawsters Book. There will be games like Ready-Set-Draw and the Drawsters 10 Point Rally, music and other activities! By the end of camp, you’ll become an official Abrakadoodle Drawster.  So plan to join us for this fun, easy-to-draw camp.

Studio 1 Art Camp - Come join the fun at Abrakadoodle Studio 1 and create art like the masters. Use exciting materials from your own Studio Kit to create art like Audubon, Morrisseau, Solberg, Picasso and more. Learn new techniques and interesting art words and facts as you use your Abrakadoodle Studio 1 Challenge Book. We will play games, listen to music and sing along with our own Abrakadoodle CD. At the end of the session you will take your art materials for added fun at home. So come join the fun at Studio 1!

Abrakadoodle’s Green Kids Art Camp - Green kids care about the environment and we do too at Abrakadoodle!  In this new series of lessons we will create remarkable art using recycled items such as CDs, plastic bottles, packaging, paper tubes and more.  Our recyclers will learn about reusing common everyday items and turning them into masterpieces.  There’ll be lots of 3-D projects such as creating French Santons statues and fuzzy animals and puppies, as well as using reusable items for painting and drawing!  Join our colorful world where we put the emphasis on GREEN!

A to Z Athletic Training

A to Z Athletes is an “Integrity” based team of experts who provide consulting, education and year round Athletic Development Programs and education to coaches & athletes with an emphasis on “Character Development & Leadership”.  Come train with EXPERTS who know how to get proven results with 1000s of All Star, All American, National, World, Scholarship, Pro & Olympic Athletes.

Train aggressively and intelligently…Year around training is “key” to maximizing athletic potential. All training should be appropriately structured for effective transition into seasonal play. We train athletes, 13 years and up, 6 days per week - strategically alternating stressors, not overloading the body or exhausting the athlete. Each day of training is based on a different focus, yet all cohesively and methodically tied together.

2-4-6-8-Who do we appreciate? Your aspiring cheerleader! One day will be devoted to SPORTS only!  We’ll Water Slide another day on a HUGE water slide.  The week will end with a field trip to a place that all cool dudes love!

Fashion Designer

Young girls will graduate from playing dress-up to actually creating and modeling their own fashion designs.  Students will be grouped into Design Teams, responsible for creating a line of clothing for the grand fashion show on the final day.  Every girl will have the opportunity to design, assemble and model the fashions that they imagine.  Design basics such as color, pattern, and texture coordination will be learned an applied to an individual designer portfolio.  Designs come to life with fabrics, papers, ribbons, embellishments, and much more!  (No sewing required.)

Groovy Girl


Join Coach Armand for “Groovy Girl Camp” this summer!  Girls will enjoy scrap booking and dancing to GROOVY music.  They will enjoy manicures, pedicures, and facials on “Spa Day”.  The girls will learn about taking care of their skin and having a daily facial routine.  These Groovy Girls will love our trip to Stonebriar Mall for a totally Groovy Scavenger Hunt (extra mall money not included).  The week will end with a party and a movie (including all kinds of snacks and popcorn) at Coach Armand’s house.  All this, plus much more, awaits you at “Groovy Girl Camp” this summer.

Help! MS Summer Reading Project

Students entering 6th grade can come for a week of Summer Reading Project help.  We will plan out how long it should take to read the book, what to look for to complete the project, and work in small groups to accomplish the Summer Reading Project assignment.  Students must come with at least one of their Summer Reading Project books in hand.  It is preferable that students not have read their book yet or have read less than half before starting camp.  A mid-morning snack will be provided.

Jump Rope Camp

Jump Rope Camp combines endurance, speed/power, “low impact” non-rope jumping tricks, as well as rhythm and wrist speed rope skills.


All participants are given the opportunity to learn Level I & II jump rope skills.  Each student is introduced to single rope trick jumping, team jumping skills, long rope jumping, Double Dutch, and triple rope jumping. 


Students will need to wear sturdy tennis shoes.

It’s a construction camp!  We will build our way through arts and crafts, snacks, and literature.  Creativity abounds as kids construct all sorts of things.  Snacks will be provided, but construction “workers” need to bring their lunches to “work” both days.  Come build with us!

Magic Camp
Looking for something different for your child this summer?

In Magic Camp, students will learn crafts as they make their own props to perform for their friends! They learn the history ofmagic from Ancient Egypt, Houdini and Criss Angel! They also learn public speaking to assist with the presentation of their own magic show!


We provide everything - a free promotional show, supplies, magic kits and personal instruction. Camp ispersonally taught by Paul Osborne, who has created illusions for the best known illusionists in the world for over 25 years. As a performer and producer he has credits ranging from Las Vegas to Monte Carlo. Hisideas and illusion designs have made their way to major theme parks, Broadway and network television. Mr. Osborne has authored 7 books on illusion stagecraft and hundreds of building plans for the magical craftsman.

Welcome to Soccer Camp! Come learn the fundamentals of soccer while improving your overall skill in the world’s most popular sport. The camp will be led by Prince of Peace’s Varsity Girls Soccer Coach, with help from some of the varsity players themselves. On the last day of camp we will end with an all-camper scrimmage that all parents can come to watch. We will also work indoors to improve quick passing and speed. POPCS Academic Summer School

Summer school for-credit classes are designed to help students ease the congestion of classes during the regular school year and provide more course options. Students may choose to take required classes in the summer to augment their high school portfolio or explore new interests. All courses are hands-on, project-oriented and focus on real-life applications. Projects will integrate topics from other POPCS courses for added curricular reinforcement. Assignments are completed in class with little, if any, outside work required. Credit cannot be given if a student misses more than four hours of class.

 

High School Health (1 semester credit)

In this Health course, students will strive to develop an understanding of the concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention. They will learn to access valid health information and health-promoting products & services.  Students will demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and reduce health risks.  They will analyze the influence of culture, media, technology and other factors on health.  Several classroom activities/projects include heart dissection, designing a “teen” restaurant and tracking and evaluating personal dietary intake for 10 days.


Students will need to bring a 3-ring binder, paper and a USB flash drive to school.

Multi-Media skills will e applied to manipulating text, graphics, and audio/video using a variety of applications. Digital photos will be enhanced by adding music, narration, motion, and more in projects. Students will have opportunities to record and play sounds, import and export audio files, edit and mix tracks and apply different effects to recordings. Projects will provide students the experience with create, edit, and share movies.

Students will be trained in the basics of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop software programs.  Elements of graphic design, layout and production will be combined with special effects and the effective use of font styles and sizes to enhance the publication.  The skills taught in this class will be used in real-life applications as students will generate publications to include producing posters, invitations, t-shirts, brochures, magazine layouts, and in developing a personal logo design. Students’ original photography will be used in projects designed to be camera-ready and functional for both computer/electronic and print media.

 In this Communication Application course, students will strive to develop strong effective communication and listening skills.  They will understand the development and preparation process of presenting speeches and will demonstrate eye contact, vocal variety, and effective/appropriate body language to enhance their speeches.  Students will present a variety of styles of times speeches, serve as presenter/master of ceremonies, and participate in various functions of speech evaluations and contests.  Several of the classroom activities will be based upon the program used by Toastmaster’s International.

Mathematics Classes

-designed to earn credit for remediation of courses that were not successfully completed during the school year. Students may also choose to take these classes to get a head start on the required class they will be taking in the upcoming school year.

All courses (2 weeks in length each) will review the material of 1 entire semester, focusing on creating a balance between theory and opportunity to practice newly acquired or refreshed skills. We will complete all assignments during class; extra worksheets are available for additional/optional practice outside of class. Credit will only be given to those taking classes for remediation. To Enroll in Camping in the Zone Specialty Camps: 

Registration is available on-line. The $10 registration fee and camp fees are due at time of registration.  The non-refundable registration fee is payable once per child, regardless of the number of camps enrolled in or if camps are added at a later date from original enrollment.  Camp fees are refundable up to one week before the start date of the camp.  Enrollment will be accepted until the start date of camp, or until the camp fills.

Should there be insufficient enrollment, a camp may be cancelled.  Upon cancellation, parents will be notified immediately.  Camp fees will be refunded in full or credited towards another Camping in the Zone Camp or Summer in the Zone (full day camping).
