From the Desk of.....

Pastor Luke:

Rick Gosselin is a sports editor. He makes his living writing for the Dallas Morning News. Among Rick’s annual writing assignments is the task of providing coverage of the NFL Draft.

The Draft is, of course, big business!

In fact, by the time you read this, millions of words, along with gallons of ink, will have been spilled across pages by sports editors, like Rick, throughout the country.

Their job?

Well, it is two-fold:

  • To tell us what team selected which players.

  • To forecast (predict) the impact of selected players upon the standing (upcoming performance) of the team!

The ‘theory’ is simple:

“The better a team drafts its players, the more likely it is to WIN!”

Not so with God’s team!

I don’t know if you’ve ever noticed this or not, but in God’s ‘Draft’, He has often selected the most unlikely players!

Study the record and you will find that God has placed on His team:

  • People who have cheated the government (Zacchaeus)

  • People who have run from Him (Jonah)

  • People with ‘tempers’ (Peter)

  • Even a former murderer (St. Paul)

Strange draft-picks!

Yet, God used them all!

This month we will be studying a book of the Bible that begins with a draft-pick!

At the beginning of Exodus, God selects an unlikely candidate to lead His people out of bondage; slavery; prison!

A little baby named MOSES!

Moses

Feared

    Stuttered

         and even questioned!

Yet God used him in a mighty way to set His people free!

This month we will begin a three-month journey through the Book of Exodus under the theme:

Prison Break B.C.

And don’t forget…

Among all the draft-picks that God has made in history and time is included one name I am sure you will appreciate: Yours!

God Bless You,

Rev. Dr. Luke Biggs

Care

Food Pantry

May Day…just how many of us can still remember when as children we made little paper baskets and picked some violets and delivered them to folks in our neighborhood?   Maybe we should go back to simple ways of showing our love for our neighbors.

The support that the congregation of Prince of Peace gives to our Food Pantry and the Ministries we partner with continues to show many people in need that we love them.

Wish list for May:

Pancake syrup
Saltine crackers
Cookies
Jelly
Canned ham
Canned chicken
Hamburger Helper
Cereal (not oatmeal we have plenty of it)

Also, we are partnering with Missions again this month to help stock the kitchen in the Habitat for Humanity house.  We need new kitchen items like a toaster, a can opener, dishes, linens, flatware and pots & pans.  Please include the receipt so that if we get two of an item we can exchange it prior to sending everything on to the house.
